Dork

As I was blogging the response to my Honest Scrap Award, I could NOT think of anything. Which... led me down a scary honesty path where everything was gross. Some where in my mind if its honest its gross and embarrassing.

YIKES...

So I would like to add some honesty!

I absolutely love when my children laugh!! The best is when Lany makes LV get really laughy!! It cracks me up!!

I love to scare people! And by people I mean friends or family. "people" makes it sound like I jump out from around the cookie isle at the grocery store. (hahahahaha) Duran and I use to scare each other like crazy when I was in HS. We often got Chela, and the best was when she called be a B****, and then I told on her hahahaha.
BUT... I also love to scare my kiddos!!!!! When Lany was a baby I would make this "boop" sound and 3 month old Lany would be SO scare. Her little baby arms would flap, her lip would stick out and shed cry. As soon as she was calm, id do it again. Ro would get SO mad but I thought it was SO funny hahahaha

I had gestational diabetes with Lanys pregnancy. I was suppose to check my sugars and be on a diet... I lied the whole time!!! eekkk!!!

Honest Scrap Award

I ACTUALLY won something...
well...
sorta.

Ive been awarded the Honest Scrap Award by my cousin Lulu who said, and I quote... Or, and I copy and paste, "My cousin, who continues to inspire me with her own personal growth and progress, Annie".

WOW!!! I am beyond flattered!! This is coming from the woman who is super awesome freaken amazing! She is raising three awesome children, is the best photographer (don't believe me... check THIS out), and among all the other things, she ran a freaken MARATHON!!!!!!!!!! What the heck!! Lets just say, I LOVE HER! She inspires me in SO many ways! I keep up with her amazingness at Creative Catharsis And if we could live close together... OH watch out!!

There is a catch to being awarded...

1) I must thank the person who gave the award and list their blog and link it.
2) Share "10 Honest Things" about myself.
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
4) Tell those 7 people they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving the award.

So...
First off I would like to thank my awarder... (haha is that a word) Lulu! I love her so very much and I am so thankful to not only have her be a member of my eternal family, but to call her my friend!! I love you!!!

Second...
Ten "honest" things... Mooowwwwahahahaha

1. I pee in the shower. I have ever since HS. I honestly don't find anything wrong with it. AND i use to brush my teeth in the shower. The only reason I added this is because I recently found out that my Bro Duran thinks THAT'S horribly disgusting... The only reason why I don't any more is because I have an electric tooth brush....
2. I think about still being in the military EVERY SINGLE DAY!! I AM adjusting to being a Homemaker, but I still miss the suck!!! I miss the work, the tasks, the battle buddies, Sometimes I even miss the drama. But I will say that I am finally getting my family in the right level of priority and that is amazing!! I learn to love this gig more and more each day! And... I would not go back if I had the option! Just sayin.
3. I ALWAYS have a mess!! Usually in my room. Its not always uncontrolled, but I ALWAYS have to have a pile, or basket full of crap, or laundry at the end of the bed... My mom says there is something mentally wrong with people who do that or who hoard, which... I might be at the brink of hahaha!
4. I have a thing for butts... EEKKK that sounds so crazy. But i just love to look at butts!! A nice sporty butt, a big huge round butt (like Kim Kardashian), and even a big fat FAT butt! I worked with a guy who's wife was over weight and she had a HUGE shelf-double wide butt! Loved It!! This probably all stems from a desire to have MY butt biggish, round and fit... I hope any way!!
5. I HATE to hear the sound of scraping teeth on a fork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care who you are or where we are! If you are doing it, I will let you know! GGRRRRR
6. One of the funniest things that has ever happened to me was... I was running in a HUGE battalion run. (battalion runs consist of HUNDREDS of people, running TOO MANY miles). We were SO close to being done!! And I couldn't hang ANY MORE!! They moved me up to the front of formation... I was FIGHTING to keep running. And then, The GAG!!! Im runnin, Im gagin. They say MOVE TO THE SIDE! (not cuz they care about me, but because THEY don't wanna get thrown up on!!) I was heavin!! All on the side of the road!! And the unit behind us was an ALL MALE unit, as they ran by me, hunched and heavin, they all yelled "YEAH", "Yeah", "Get some", "WOOOHOOO that's what I like to see". hahahaha I didn't even actually puke!
7. On the very first day of basic training, a DS came into our bay and smoked EVERYONE for talking. I had already been in bed in my sleeping bag and she didn't see me. I DID NOT MOVE!!! I just listened, and though OMGSS, if she catches me, she will KILL me!!
8. I pick my nose every day! I hate to have those crusties up there. I think this started some time during or after Iraq. My nose was ALWAYS so dry! I cant stand it!!
9. I was on the dance team my senior year and i have NO CLUE as to why I made the team! I WAS HORRIBLE!!! It was the hardest thing I have ever done (other than the first 6 months of being home)! I cried EVERY NIGHT after practice!
10. I have absolutely no fear of getting naked! I could care less who is present! I swam my whole life, then was on the dance team, then joined the Army! Oh... and have had two children. I have been naked in front of so many people than now I'm like, WHATEVER. I got a massage for my bday (thanks Papa and Rae), and the masseuse was my Cous Amanda. She said, "strip down to as much as you are comfortable with". I could have stripped down right there and could have cared less, but I figured Id save her the embarrassment and nightmares!!

Now for the Seven...

Cindy, I love your blog! I miss you and think of you often! You were always there for me!! Thank you!! You are Awarded!

Chela, I wish you would blog more. I miss being part of you every day life! I'm excited to read of your new one! I love you and miss you!!! You are Awarded!

Christine!!!!! I LOVE YA!! I think you are absolutely amazing and strong! I will cherish the little time we had and hope for much more!! You are Awarded!

Always there for me, one of my besties! I love you Mandi!! I am so glad that we have had this time to reconnect! You mean so much to me, you ARE family! You are Awarded!

OH I MISS YOU TARA!!!!! I long to read your blog. I love you and your fam and i LOVE to read about them!!! You are so great and i am SO sad that you are not in Hinesville anymore!! You are Awarded!

Shannon, the Lord made us cousins for a reason, need I say more? I love you! You are Awarded!

Becca, we have never been to close but I always feel the love of you spirit when I think of you or have the wonderful opportunity to be with you! I admire you so much!! I am thankful to all these computer technologies which have helped us get to know each other better! I think you are amazing!!! You are Awarded!

P.S. Ladies, I was awarded in Nov and just got around to it! No pressure!!

So...
Like 5 years ago y'all voted to see why I got MY FIRST ticket...

Please note that this all happened the second week of Ro's RnR! Its early afternoon, I'm snuggling my hubby and I hear a noise...

I FLY outta bed, grab my keys, run outside to move my car, and BAM!!! There is ALREADY a ticket!! No Perking is from 12-3. I was outside at 12:10 and my ticket was issued at 12:01!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it!!!!!! 12:01!!!

AND...
Since then I have received MY SECOND ticket!
You guessed it! Street sweeper day!
In my knowledgeable defense I got the ticket in a DIFFERENT neighborhood while I was Visit Teaching...
Thought I was suppose to receive blessings for doing service hahahaha

Oh well.

Here

WASHINGTON – Nobody wants to buy them a beer.

Even near military bases, female veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't often offered a drink on the house as a welcome home.

More than 230,000 American women have fought in those recent wars and at least 120 have died doing so, yet the public still doesn't completely understand their contributions on the modern battlefield.

For some, it's a lonely transition as they struggle to find their place.

Aimee Sherrod, an Air Force veteran who did three war tours, said years went by when she didn't tell people she was a veteran. After facing sexual harassment during two tours and mortar attacks in Iraq, the 29-year-old mother of two from Bells, Tenn., was medically discharged in 2005 with post-traumatic stress disorder.

She's haunted by nightmares and wakes up some nights thinking she's under attack. She's moody as a result of PTSD and can't function enough to work or attend college. Like some other veterans, she felt she improperly received a low disability rating by the Department of Veterans Affairs that left her with a token monthly payment. She was frustrated that her paperwork mentioned she was pregnant, a factor she thought was irrelevant.

"I just gave up on it and I didn't tell anyone about ever being in the military because I was so ashamed over everything," Sherrod said.

Then Jo Eason, a Nashville, Tenn., lawyer working pro bono through the Lawyers Serving Warriors program, stepped in a few years later and Sherrod began taking home a heftier monthly disability payment.

"I've never regretted my military service, I'm glad I did it," Sherrod said. "I'm not ashamed of my service. I'm ashamed to try and tell people about it because it's like, well, why'd you get out? All the questions that come with it."

The Defense Department bars women from serving in assignments where the primary mission is to engage in direct ground combat. But the nature of the recent conflicts, with no clear front lines, puts women in the middle of the action, in roles such as military police officers, pilots, drivers and gunners on convoys. In addition to the 120-plus deaths, more than 650 women have been wounded.

Back home, women face many of the same issues as the men, but the personal stakes may be greater.

Female service members have much higher rates of divorce and are more likely to be a single parent. When they do seek help at VA medical centers, they are screening positive at a higher rate for military sexual trauma, meaning they indicated experiencing sexual harassment, assault or rape. Some studies have shown that female veterans are at greater risk for homelessness.

Former Army Sgt. Kayla Williams, an Iraq veteran who has written about her experience, said she was surprised by the response she and other women from the 101st Airborne Division received from people in Clarksville, Tenn., near Fort Campbell, Ky.

She said residents just assumed they were girlfriends or wives of military men.

"People didn't come up to us and thank us for our service in the same way. They didn't give us free beers in bars in the same way when we first got back," said Williams, 34, of Ashburn, Va. "Even if you're vaguely aware of it, it still colors how you see yourself in some ways."

Genevieve Chase, 32, of Alexandria, Va., a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves, said the same guys who were her buddies in Afghanistan didn't invite her for drinks later on because their wives or girlfriends wouldn't approve.

"One of the hardest things that I had to deal with was, being a woman, was losing my best friends or my comrades to their families," Chase said.

It was that sense of loss, she said, that led her to get together with some other female veterans for brunch in New York last year. The group has evolved into the American Women Veterans, which now has about 2,000 online supporters, some of whom go on camping trips and advocate for veterans' issues. About a dozen marched in this year's Veteran's Day parade in New York.

"We just want to know that when we come home, America has our back," Chase said. "That's the biggest thing. Women are over there. You want to feel like you're coming home to open arms, rather than to a public that doesn't acknowledge you for what you've just done and what you just sacrificed."

Rachel McNeill, a gunner during hostile convoys in Iraq, said she was so affected by the way people treated her when they learned she fought overseas that she even started to question whether she was a veteran.

She described the attitudes as "Oh, you didn't do anything or you were just on base," said McNeill, who suffers from postconcussive headaches, ringing in her ears, and other health problems related to roadside bomb blasts. The 25-year-old from Hollandale, Wis., was a sergeant in the Army Reserves.

She said she seemingly even got that response when she told the VA staff in Madison, Wis., of her work. She said she was frustrated to see in her VA paperwork how what she told them had been interpreted.

"It would say like, 'the patient rode along on convoys,' like I was just a passenger in the back seat," McNeill said.

Other women have had similar complaints. The VA leadership has said it recognizes it needs to do more to improve care for these veterans, and as part of changes in the works, female coordinators are in place at each medical center to give women an advocate. The agency is also reviewing comments on a proposal to make it easier for those who served in noninfantry roles — including women — to qualify for disability benefits for PTSD.

Sen. Patty Murray, a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs committee, recently asked VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and Defense Secretary Robert Gates to ensure that service members' combat experience is included on their military discharge papers, so later they can get benefits they are entitled to.

Research has shown that a lack of validation of a soldier's service can make their homecoming more difficult.

"What worries me is that women themselves still don't see themselves as veterans, so they don't get the care they need for post-traumatic stress syndrome or traumatic brain injury or even sexual assault, which obviously is more unique to women, so we still have a long ways to go," said Murray, D-Wash.

Chase said one challenge is getting female veterans to ask for changes.

"Most of us, because we were women service members, are so used to not complaining and not voicing our issues, because in the military that's considered weak. Nobody wants to hear the girl whine," Chase said.

McNeill said that when she's been out at restaurants and bars with the guys in her unit, they make sure she gets some recognition when the free beers go around.

"They'll make a point ... usually to say, 'She was over there with us, she was right next to us,'" McNeill said

AMAZING

I just read this post on the Yoga Journal website. I love what she says. The letter was written in response to the question of whether or not someone should wait to be skin to start yoga.
... my love for the response has nothing to do with weight, it has to do with the "definition" of what yoga does for me!!

Dear Rita,

Absolutely not! True, carrying extra weight will make certain poses more challenging, and there will be increased pressure on the joints in some poses. But not doing yoga until you lose weight is like not doing yoga until you get flexible. Among other things, we do yoga because of the tremendous physical and mental benefits it brings us in exactly those areas where we struggle. If we were already as strong and flexible and thin as we tell ourselves we should be, then we wouldn't have to do an asana practice at all. We could just sit around meditating all day until we found bliss.

The point is that yoga helps us find balance in all areas of our lives; we're not supposed to arrive in yoga class as a fait accompli. We're supposed to show up ready to take a journey of transformation, whatever that may be. Everyone comes to the mat with a different imbalance, but everyone is working on something, and it is the act of getting on the mat that points us in the right direction.

A dear friend of mine began practicing yoga at the age of 37. She had always avoided it because she thought she was too stiff and that she didn't have a "yoga body." After several months of classes, she made a remark that I have never forgotten. She said that on the days she does yoga, she consistently makes better food choices, and these choices come naturally because she is calmer, more centered, and more fully in the present moment.

To me, this observation is the essence of the impact that yoga can have in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to disregard your friends' advice and find a class that lets you begin to experience yoga's extraordinary potential. You may need to experiment a bit to find the class that is just right for you, but I am sure it will be worth it.

In & Out of Time by Maya Angelou

The sun has come.
The mist has gone.
We see in the distance...
our long way home.
I was always yours to have.
You were always mine.
We have loved each other in and out of time.
When the first stone looked up at the blazing sun
and the first tree struggled up from the forest floor
I had always loved you more.
You freed your braids...
gave your hair to the breeze.
It hummed like a hive of honey bees.
I reached in the mass for the sweet honey comb there....
Mmmm...God how I love your hair.
You saw me bludgeoned by circumstance.
Lost, injured, hurt by chance.
I screamed to the heavens....loudly screamed....
Trying to change our nightmares into dreams...
The sun has come.
The mist has gone.
We see in the distance our long way home.
I was always yours to have.
You were always mine.
We have loved each other in and out
in and out
in and out
of time.

Ive Been Converted!

I attended my FIRST yoga class today!!! It was not what I had planned on doing at the gym, but when I got there my VT Jenny was about to do the yoga class. Ive wanted to try it out but ya know... first times are always better with a friend ; ) *sorry if that sounded... hahahaha, bad....

The class started,
I was watching the others, imitating them as best I could,
laughing inside at the way the instructor was breathing,
TRYING to FEEL something or... I don't know...
RELAXED, feel like I was getting a workout,
(I know that's like an oxymoron, but, isn't that whats suppose to happen with yoga??)
As the class progressed so did the movements,
then...

THE WARRIOR,

As I stabled myself into the warrior position, I felt myself... become emancipated!
From all of my doubts,... self doubts...
I FELT SO AMAZINGLY STRONG!!!!
tears came to my eyes!!!
"Shooting" the bow and arrow... WHAT A RELEASE!!!
To take that emotion and LET IT GO!!
And then the relaxing at the end...
I was so taken away, my body feeling open, relaxed and strong,
my mind feeling calm, and happy...
I cried!!!!
I felt like this was the first time I had EVERY TRULY relaxed!!!
OH SWEET YOGA, where have you been?!
OH HOW I LOVE THEE!!
I CAN NOT WAIT TILL my next class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*In the after math of the class, my body feels strong and worked, my mind feels clam and light... I really like the way im feeling right now!!!

p.s. Jenny was amazing!! I could NOT believe some of the moves she was able to do... I wanna do that!!

Parking
Disneyland admission
2 cotton candies
1 souveneir wall map (because they DONT sell pendant flags)
TOTAL: $28

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH I KNOW RIGHT!!!!!!

I had plans to spend time with Ro ALONE! Which would have taken a HUGE chunk of money and would have taken away from money that could have been used to do fun family stuff, and I was feeling guilty!! Selfish even!! But everyone was telling me, "No you need THAT time with Ro, dont feel guilty", but I did!!

I FINALLY made a decision to NOT get a hotel, and to find stuff/activities we could do that would be memorable to the family and children especially!!

THE VERY NEXT DAY I read on a FB status,
I have two, 3 day Disneyland park hopper tickets... for free!

WHAT!!!!! IT WAS A SIGN! I DECIDED NOT TO BE SELFISH, AND LOOK... FREE TICKETS!!

Luckily for me this status came from my cousin-in-law Phill!! And there were no other comments, it was like it was just waiting for ME!!

Two days of DISNEYLAND here we come... WOOHOO!

We were planning on going TWO DAYS to disneyland BUT we went Monday... the day after LV hurt his arm, and we couldnt go Tuesday because he had the appointment. I will be forever greatful to Phill, we were able to spend time as a family and create amazing memories that will last a life time and beyond!! THANK YOU, TAHNK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Is It Broke?

All the military spouse/mothers know that family emergencies, flat tires, and emergency room visits happen ONLY when the Hub is deployed!! First off I would like to say that from the time Lany was old enough to move around she has bumped, banged, crashed, fell into everything and anything and I have been WAITING for my day in the ER.
SO... because the Hub was deployed... which makes danger OFFICIAL... I have been holding my breathe!!!
The day I was to pull out of GA and start the journey to CA my car wouldn't start and I needed a jump... blessed, it caused me no further problems until we were safe at my Mom's house, and then I had to buy a new battery!
Six and a half months of waiting it happened!!!! LUCKILY (or maybe inconveniently)the incident occurred a week after Ro came home for RnR!!

Sunday afternoon,
lunch is done,
waiting for nap time,
Ro and I were in the living room,
the kids were playing WITH THE DOOR OPEN in their room,
I heard Lany say, "I'm sorry LV, I'm sorry" Which is the routine when she doesn't want him to tell on her,
I waited,
no crying,
nothing,
about 3 minutes later the Boy walks out, holding his right arm,
there was no crying because he was stuck in one of those no breathers,
wrist was swollen,
CRYING when we tried to see if everything was OK,
he could NOT grip,

SO...
to urgent care,
waiting,
waiting,
doc checked wrist,
waiting,
x rays which made him CRY due to the forced movement,
waiting,
waiting,
doc comes in,
says he couldn't see any breaks BUT he could not read the xray,
I would have to wait till the next evening AFTER 5 pm,
said he didn't think anything was wrong,
that LV was only CRYING because he was scared...

WHAT????!!!!!! THE BOY IS OBVIOUSLY HURT!!!!!! HE STILL HAD NOT MOVED HIS ARM!!! WAS STILL FAVORING IT!!!! WAS STILL CRYING, LETHARGIC, AND VISIBLY IN PAIN!!!! I WAS SO FREAKEN MAD THAT I DIDN'T SAY A WORD!!!

Doc says do you want me to wrap his wrist in an ace bandage,
through gritted teeth I say SURE!

Monday morning,
call our primary care,
cant get an appointment till Tuesday morning,

Tuesday morning the boy and I go to the docs,
as soon as the doc walks in he says I think his elbow is dislocated,
I have seen this before many times,
and the way he is holding his arm (which as a limp hang at the side of his body),
The doc graciously listened to my FULL story,
ordered full DETAILED xrays,
we waited,
NO BREAK,
NO FRACTURE,
doc did a little maneuver,
said he should be better,
wrapped his arm,
we went home,
the boy took a nap,
when he woke,
MOVEMENT HAD RETURNED!!
still favoring it,
still was aware of the pressure he applied,
BUT,
VISIBLY BETTER.

I have never wanted to kiss an Doc or call and sing my praise but HECK!! I was so happy! and all it took was for a doc to ACTUALLY pay attention!! I guess I lucked out on the NO BREAK thing,

BUT... this happened on Sunday 13, Sept.

SINCE THEN...
LV has fallen off a 5 foot play structure at the park, STRAIGHT onto his head!
Fallen 4 1/2 feet off the play fort we have in our back yard, complete somersault in the air and skidded FACE FIRST into the wood chips!!
And last night busted his lip on the tonka truck, blood, YES!!!

Guess I have to HOLD MY BREATHE

The Pick Up

I surprised Ro and brought the kids to the airport... I DO NOT have a camera OTHER THAN my cell... I WAS SHAKING LIKE CRAZY!!! I was SO excited that NONE of the pictures came out but I'm gonna post them ANYWAY!!

The kids RAN to him and I was glad that LV, was HAPPY!!

Although this is an AMAZING SIGHT, part of me wanted to KNOCK THE KIDS OUT OF HIS ARMS and jump in!! Jump into MY PLACE!! The place where I belong!! Jump into the Annie Notch!!

The kids WERE SO EXCITED!!!! they were RUNNING ALL OVER THE PLACE and I could have cared less!!! They were HAPPY!! I WAS HAPPY!!!

Believe it or not, all I could think in THIS moment was, "GROSS!!!! That hat is SO dirty and sweaty nasty gross, and my poor big headed boy has it on his head... GROSS"!!!

We were ALL together!!!!

Just being in his presence was SO AMAZING!! To see the children smile at him, laughing with him, call his name to "show" him something... AW... LOVE!!!
